San Jose Del Cabo Fishing Report Update

January 2016 – Sea of Cortez Los Cabos

The colder currents have arrived in Los Cabos causing a change in the fish species and also behaviour. Mornings currently are brisk until Nice Dorado san jose del cabo fishing chartersaround 8:30am rising to temperatures around 27C/81F in late afternoon. Currently out at Iman Banks there are large schools of yellowfin tuna ranging from 10lbs to 45lbs with the exceptions of a few larger ones.  Inner Gordo banks is producing some medium size yellowfin tuna plus a few Wahoo.  Outta Gordo Banks is producing the odd large cow yellowfin tuna (150+lbs) with also a few sharks being caught.  Over in Palmilla anglers are reeling in a large amount of Dorado and Wahoo – making for a great time WAHOO lol. Being closer to the shorelines in the morning ended with success as good schools of rooster fish are being landed resulting in a lack of chicken in the area.  A larger school of striped marlin have arrived keeping anglers searching for marlin hooking up with either 1 or 2 marlin a trip.  That is your Fish update for San Jose del Cabo.

Hurricane Odile Update/ Report

Hurricane Odile Update/ Report

The devastating effects of hurricane Odile were wide spread in the Los Cabos area, reaching people of all walks of life. Peoples lives turned upside down as hurricane Odile hit and took peoples homes, cars, jobs and much more. The towns of San Jose Del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, although severely shaken and taken much damage on by the hurricane , were ready to get back to life and work to restore the place in a manner no one would have imagined. Its been about a month and a half since Odile hit and what a recovery has taken place! The lower Baja is alive and busy, the hotels are opening, and it once again is a beautiful spot for a beachside getaway.

The Catch Fish Cabo fleet did take on damage, but with a hard working team and the drive to do what we love and be out on the water, we are ready again to charter out of the Puerto Los Cabos Marina! Since the hurricane, our team aboard a 32 ft Osprey, “Deep Color”, was able to win both days of the Bisbees Los Cabos Offhshore Game Fish aspect of the tournament, which really aided in getting our fleet back to the high standards we hold for our vessels. We thank the whole team that put on the Bisbees tournaments, as it was a boost not only for us here at Catch Fish Cabo, but also to all of Los Cabos, showing the world that it is back on its feet and ready for all the tourists and anglers that love visiting the area.

We encourage all to show your support to the Los Cabos area by making San Jose Del Cabo or Cabo San Lucas your next vacation spot. Enjoy the beautiful beaches (even nicer since the hurricane), eat the awesome food, enjoy a margarita, come out for a trip on the Sea Of Cortez, and give back to to the people that have worked so hard to make Los Cabos a destination you want to come to!

Successful fishing charters in San Jose Del Cabo!

A Marlin, two Roosterfish, and a Yellowtail!

fishing charter day marlin rooster fish Monday May 11, 2014

It was about 75 degrees as we headed out on the Sea of Cortez about half of a mile out from the marina. There was about a 12 mph wind blowing NNW, beautifully clear skies above us and about a 15mi visibility rating. We were on the 28ft Super Panga “The Handymen” and it ended up being a very successful day. We hooked into a 190 pounder, and ended up fighting it for about an hour and twenty minutes! That was a good size fish at probably seven feet long! We continued out towards the San Jose Del Cabo Estuary, and hooked into a couple of roosterfish right out in front of the Holiday Inn Resort. It seemed like a breeze pulling them in with them only weighing 58 pounds and the other 25. Although they looked small next to that big marlin they still were really decent fish! As the weather continued to be clear and beautiful with temperatures up to about 90 degrees, we got to add a yellowtail to our catch for the day. Four really nice fish and some happy anglers!
