Everybody Loves Cow Yellowfin Tuna!

This fall the tuna run was above average for the Los Cabos area bringing in many large tuna sometimes with multiple large fish each day.  The battle is something you will never forget, especially the way you feel the next day.  Not only does it take a skilled crew to hook them but the real experience starts to show hours into the fight when it can be so easy to lose the fish.

Here are pictures of some of the great cow tuna caught this year so far.

Early Spring Fishing Report Los Cabos

San Jose Fishing Wahoo The water transition period is happening now producing different species in the area.

The marlin action has been pretty steady lately out at Gordo banks.   Their have been good amounts of  Wahoo biting so they have become a targeted fish on many boats.   Yellowfin tuna schools are returning with a bit more size and quantity.   Yellow fin are ranging from 10-100lbs (4.5-45kilos).  Sea lions have been quite the trouble at Gordo and Iman banks while targeting tuna.   There are small amounts of dorado (mahi mahi) and bonito being caught which is a good sign more will be moving in soon.  Enjoy your time out fishing in San Jose Del Cabo.
Thanks for reading your fish report  for March 25th, 2016.

A couple recent reviews!

A couple reviews that make us love what we do!

“It was a great trip. The captain and crew were very professional and knew how to fish.
We have fished in a lot of places and your outfit is one of the best.

Arrived at 6:30am the crew was ready, gave my money to a guy on the dock for the license, moved over to another dock he had our license and ice ready to go.

Caught bait and started to fish for grouper etc. by 10:00 we had 25 -26 fish.  Large grouper, mackerel and pompano.

No luck on marlin but wrong time of year. Crew great, had a good time, my buddy who does not fish much had a great time.

Thanks for the great trip, I will highly recommend your outfit for future trips and anyone interested in coming to San Jose Del Cabo.”

2. “Had the best time of my life on the Ally Lew!  Pablo was fantastic!  We brought 2 Marlin onboard and the third one right up to the gunnel before it spit the hook.  Please let me know where I can post to give you the review of a lifetime!  No other boats caught Marlin so Pablo and the first mate where just wonderful!  Notice the explanation points!  We even had time to snorkel.  We had tail dances and head shaking by all the Marlin.  I am a big small mouth bass fisherman which do the same but I only use 6 pound test.  It was the same but just monster size!  Now I have to drink light beer because I don’t think I can lift anything heavier.

I would highly recommend your to vessel to anyone!  Very clean and well kept.”

Another Review:

Had Captain Christian and deckhand Daniel take us out for the day. We didn’t get much bait from the bait boat so they started to pull in sardines themselves. After they pulled a bucket full off of a quad line. We went out and they got us immediately on grouper and Sierra. Pulled 9 sierras and 4 good size grouper. No Marlin but don’t really care. Already grilled up one of the mackerel and have been back for only an hour. Fantastic day, great crew. Way better than most of the others on the water. We pulled 2x as many fish as other boats.

More Happy Anglers:

We had a wonderful charter. Christian and Daniel worked very hard to get us on and into the fish. Later, we thoroughly enjoyed the fruits of our labor

The colder currents have arrived in Los Cabos causing a change in the fish species and also behaviour. Mornings currently are brisk until Nice Dorado san jose del cabo fishing chartersaround 8:30am rising to temperatures around 27C/81F in late afternoon. Currently out at Iman Banks there are large schools of yellowfin tuna ranging from 10lbs to 45lbs with the exceptions of a few larger ones.  Inner Gordo banks is producing some medium size yellowfin tuna plus a few Wahoo.  Outta Gordo Banks is producing the odd large cow yellowfin tuna (150+lbs) with also a few sharks being caught.  Over in Palmilla anglers are reeling in a large amount of Dorado and Wahoo – making for a great time WAHOO lol. Being closer to the shorelines in the morning ended with success as good schools of rooster fish are being landed resulting in a lack of chicken in the area.  A larger school of striped marlin have arrived keeping anglers searching for marlin hooking up with either 1 or 2 marlin a trip.  That is your Fish update for San Jose del Cabo.

Successful fishing charters in San Jose Del Cabo!

A Marlin, two Roosterfish, and a Yellowtail!

fishing charter day marlin rooster fish Monday May 11, 2014

It was about 75 degrees as we headed out on the Sea of Cortez about half of a mile out from the marina. There was about a 12 mph wind blowing NNW, beautifully clear skies above us and about a 15mi visibility rating. We were on the 28ft Super Panga “The Handymen” and it ended up being a very successful day. We hooked into a 190 pounder, and ended up fighting it for about an hour and twenty minutes! That was a good size fish at probably seven feet long! We continued out towards the San Jose Del Cabo Estuary, and hooked into a couple of roosterfish right out in front of the Holiday Inn Resort. It seemed like a breeze pulling them in with them only weighing 58 pounds and the other 25. Although they looked small next to that big marlin they still were really decent fish! As the weather continued to be clear and beautiful with temperatures up to about 90 degrees, we got to add a yellowtail to our catch for the day. Four really nice fish and some happy anglers!
